Markets
Every epoch trades the coins on Fomo's trending board, as perpetuals (SYMBOL-PERP) against the dollar.
Fomo trending, top 10
When an epoch opens, the top of Fomo's trending list is read and each coin becomes a market, in the order Fomo ranks them. Only coins with a live price make the cut: a coin nobody can price is left out instead of trading on a guess.
The list shows each coin's rank, its price, its move since the epoch opened and Fomo's own 24-hour change.
Why the list is fixed for the epoch
- Fair start. Everyone can study the same list from the first second.
- No disappearing positions. A coin that drops off the board mid-epoch keeps trading, so nobody's position is closed by a list update.
- One board. The leaderboard compares returns made on the same markets.
Where prices come from
- Marks (the prices that fill orders, value positions and trigger liquidations) are live DEX prices: Jupiter for Solana coins, DexScreener for the rest. They are polled about every 2 seconds.
- Charts use GeckoTerminal candles and trades, plus a one-minute history kept by PaperFamily. Charts are display only: they never move a mark.
Every mark is stamped with the time its data actually left the source (not when it reached us), which is what the "next fresh price" rule below relies on.
Stale markets
A market whose price hasn't updated successfully for 20 seconds is stale. The chart header says so and, until a fresh price arrives:
- market orders and closes on it wait (and are cancelled, margin returned, after 60 seconds without one);
- no fills and no liquidations happen on it;
- limit orders can still be placed and rest.
This protects both sides: nobody gets filled or liquidated at a price that stopped being true.
